PROCHOICE VICTORIES MAKE CLEAR: AMERICANS DEMAND LEADERS WHO WILL PROTECT ROE

With Roe in Kavanagh’s crosshairs, voters send prochoice champions to Washington to fight for reproductive freedom

NEW YORK— Following Tuesday evening’s results, #VOTEPROCHOICE, a national organizer project, issued the following statement from co-founder Heidi Sieck:

“Voters proved what we've always known: we are a prochoice nation. Prochoice champions beat antiabortion extremists across the nation—from Laura Kelly to Lauren Underwood to Sharice Davids. Next year we know that the Supreme Court will likely overturn Roe v Wade—and America’s nationwide prochoice majority sent a clear message that we will not give up our reproductive freedom. Voters came out in force to show their power and demand leaders who will fight for reproductive freedom. Now is the time for elected officials at every level of government to get the message that reproductive freedom is a foundational value of our country. Going forward, in 2019 and 2020 and beyond, candidates, elected officials and party leaders must take note: voters demand staunchly, proudly prochoice candidates. Our reproductive freedom is not to be bargained away.”

Americans elected prochoice champions over antichoice extremists across the nation, including:

Oregon - Measure 106, Ban Public Funds for Abortions Initiative (2018) - DEFEATED

This measure would have prohibited the use of public funds to pay for an abortion, which would severely limit access to abortions for poor women who rely on Medicare and all public employees.
