#VOTEPROCHOICE Cofounder: "Senator is trying to turn American into a forced birth nation"
OKLAHOMA—Oklahoma State Senator Joseph Silk (R) just introduced legislation to make abortion a felony homicide punishable by life in prison. In response, national prochoice project #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi Sieck released the following statement:
"Oklahoma State Senator Joseph Silk is trying to turn America into a forced birth nation. State Senator Silk just introduced legislation to make abortion a felony homicide punishable by life in prison — this is unconscionable and we cannot let this stand. America is a staunchly prochoice nation: 72% American voters believe in reproductive freedom. Yet with Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, the powerful conservative minority in this country is only one case away from overturning Roe v Wade. We just elected a historic number of women and prochoice champions in November to defend our reproductive freedom. We must stand up for choice in Oklahoma and force Senator Silk to stand down. Make no mistake: our lives are on the line."
