#VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi Sieck: “Today we are one step closer to becoming a forced birth nation”
OHIO—The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled that Ohio can defund Planned Parenthood because the organization performs abortions. In response, national prochoice organizing project #VOTEPROCHOICE’s co-founder Heidi Sieck issued the following statement:
“Today we are one step closer to becoming a forced birth nation. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals just issued a decision that Ohio can defund Planned Parenthood for providing abortion services. The court is blatantly supporting the anti-choice extremist agenda of separating abortion from other healthcare services.
"Make no mistake: a vast majority of Americans support reproductive freedom — and access to abortion care is an essential part of that freedom.
"America is a prochoice nation. 72% of Americans support the right to choose. While the extreme, anti-choice conservative minority elected President Trump and took over the Supreme Court, our prochoice nation can still fight back if we vote prochoice up and down the ballot. The 6th Circuit’s devastating decision is an emboldened signal to the anti-choice movement that they can successfully pass damaging laws that chip away at our reproductive healthcare. This ruling must serve as an alarm bell to our nation’s prochoice majority that it’s time to stand up, fight back, and vote prochoice."
