#VOTEPROCHOICE ENDORSES REP. KATHY SYKES FOR MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

#VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck: "Sykes is an unapologetic prochoice champion"

MISSISSIPPI — National prochoice organizing project #VOTEPROCHOICE today endorsed Rep. Kathy Sykes for Mississippi House of Representatives. #VOTEPROCHOICE endorses prochoice champions up and down the ballot across the country. #VOTEPROCHOICEco-founder & CEO Heidi L. Sieck praised Sykes for making reproductive freedom a top priority in her campaign and for standing up against the complete abortion ban passed in Mississippi in March.

"Mississippi passed one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country this year — moving the country toward a forced birth nation. And in the face of growing anti-choice fervor, prochoice champion Rep. Kathy Sykes stood up for the nation's prochoice majority and spoke out against this horrific legislation. #VOTEPROCHOICE is proud to endorse Rep. Sykes — a bold prochoice champion who is unafraid to speak truth to power. Leaders like Rep. Sykes have never been more important because we know the battle over reproductive freedom is being fought in our state capitols," said #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck. "This relentless wave of abortion bans is the result of a ruthless, decades-long Republican strategy to pour money into city halls and state legislatures from coast to coast. We must fight back, and we need leaders like Rep. Sykes leading the way."

"I am honored to receive this endorsement from #VOTEPROCHOICE. I am emphatic about a woman's right to make decisions about her reproductive health. these recent laws that ban abortions and often criminalize women who choose abortion, while letting the men walk away, are archaic and backwards," said Rep. Kathy Sykes. "Not to mention, the assault on women's mental health that is not even being considered by lawmakers. Thanks so much and let's keep fighting for women's healthcare in Mississippi and across the country."

#VOTEPROCHOICE ENDORSES JOLIE JUSTUS FOR KANSAS CITY MAYOR

#VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck: "Jolie has a fierce record of standing up for women's rights"

MISSOURI — National prochoice organizing project #VOTEPROCHOICE today endorsed Jolie Justus for Kansas City Mayor. #VOTEPROCHOICE endorses prochoice champions up and down the ballot across the country. #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder & CEO Heidi L. Sieck praised Justus for making reproductive freedom a top priority in her campaigns and for championing reproductive healthcare for all.

"Today a circuit court could shut down Missouri's very last abortion clinic. That will make Missouri the first state with zero abortion clinics—the beginning of the end of reproductive rights in our country. If it wasn't clear before, Missouri makes it clear now: we are in the fight of our lives to save reproductive freedom, and that fight will begin and end on the local level," said #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck. "This relentless wave of abortion bans is a result of a ruthless, decades-long Republican strategy to pour money into city halls and state legislatures from coast to coast. We must fight back. That's why we are proud to endorse Jolie Justus for Kansas City Mayor."

Sieck continued, "In both the Kansas City Council and the Missouri State Senate, Jolie has a fierce record of standing up for women's rights, racial justice, and economic equality. And as a lifelong Missourian, she has shown her commitment to fighting for her people. Missouri needs a champion for choice—and Jolie has been that champion for decades. Missouri voters: make sure you get to the ballot box on June 18th. Voting for Jolie is a critical step towards taking back city halls--and taking back the rights to our own bodies."

"I am extremely proud to have earned the endorsement of #VOTEPROCHOICE. Their support and their efforts are particularly critical right now given the extreme, anti-choice legislation passed in Missouri and the attacks on reproductive rights across the country," said Kansas City Mayoral candidate Jolie Justus on the endorsement of #VOTEPROCHOICE. "As the next mayor of Kansas City, I will continue to stand with women and families to be a vocal advocate for reproductive rights, affordable health care, and economic opportunities."

#VOTEPROCHOICE ON MISSOURI PASSAGE OF EIGHT-WEEK ABORTION BAN

#VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck: "We are becoming a forced birth nation"

MISSOURI—Following Missouri's anti-choice Republican Governor Mike Parson's signing of the state's eight-week abortion ban, national pro-choice organizing project #VOTEPROCHOICE’s co-founder Heidi L. Sieck issued the following statement. #VOTEPROCHOICE mobilizes the 77% of American voters who are prochoice with essential information to vote prochoice up and down the ballot in every election.

“In another egregious step toward becoming a forced birth nation, Missouri’s anti-choice Republican Governor Mike Parson signed an eight-week abortion ban into law. People do not know if they’re pregnant at just eight weeks — and Missouri’s legislation is the latest in a growing number of bills designed to overturn Roe v Wade and ban abortion across the nation. The misogynistic, anti-choice minority is attempting to control our bodies — and take away our reproductive freedom.

"We must not forget that America is a prochoice nation. 77% of Americans support reproductive freedom and an even greater majority of people do not want to overturn Roe v. Wade. While the extreme, anti-choice conservative minority elected President Trump and took over the Supreme Court, our prochoice nation can still fight back if we vote prochoice up and down the ballot. Missouri has upcoming local elections this year for School Board, Mayor, City Council and special legislative races across the state. The passage of Missouri’s ‘eight-week ban’ is an emboldened signal to the vocal anti-choice minority that they can pass damaging laws that chip away at Roe. This passage must also serve as an alarm bell to our nation’s prochoice majority. It’s time to stand up, fight back, and vote prochoice in every election. Make no mistake: Missouri’s voters are prochoice and won’t stand for Gov. Parson’s attempt to deny us our freedom.”

#VOTEPROCHOICE ON LOUISIANA DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR'S SUPPORT FOR ANTI-CHOICE BILL: "THIS IS SHAMEFUL"

#VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck: "the Democratic Party must stop treating reproductive freedom as a negotiable issue"

LOUISIANA—Ahead of Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards planned signing of the state's "heartbeat bill," national pro-choice organizing project #VOTEPROCHOICE’s co-founder Heidi L. Sieck issued the following statement. #VOTEPROCHOICE mobilizes the 77% of American voters who are prochoice with essential information to vote prochoice up and down the ballot in every election.

“We are in the fight of our lives, and Democratic Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is about to betray us. Edwards promised to sign the state’s “heartbeat bill” effectively banning abortion and signing away our right to bodily autonomy. This is shameful. Members of the Democratic Party must stop treating reproductive freedom as a negotiable issue. The Democratic Party platform has a very comprehensive plank outlining an agenda for reproductive rights, health and justice. We need to hold electeds like Governor Edwards to it. If we are not free to make healthy decisions about our bodies, our sexuality and our reproduction, then we are not free. Governor Edwards is a prime example of why we must vote prochoice up and down the ballot in every single election—from PTA to President, school board to Senate. We are a staunchly prochoice nation—77% of Americans support the right to reproductive freedom. And we will not stop fighting until the overly-funded anti-choice minority is voted out of office and prochoice champions are leading this country.”

#VOTEPROCHOICE BLASTS GEORGIA "HEARTBEAT" BILL

#VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck: “Today, Georgia brought us one step closer to becoming a forced birth nation"

GEORGIA — Today, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed HB 481, also known as the "heartbeat" bill, into law. National prochoice organizing project #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck released the following statement:

“Today, Georgia brought us one step closer to becoming a forced birth nation.

Georgia’s anti-choice Republican Governor Brian Kemp just signed HB 481 into law, effectively banning abortion. Both of Georgia’s legislative bodies passed this anti-women, anti-science, legislation earlier this month. Last year, we saw historic victories in Georgia’s state legislature where we elected nine prochoice champions. Despite this, the state is still controlled by an anti-choice trifecta. Legislation like Georgia’s 'heartbeat bill' jeopardizes our families and our communities. People do not know if they’re pregnant at just six weeks — and Georgia’s legislation is just the latest in a growing number of bills designed to challenge Roe’s legitimacy in the courts and ban abortion across the nation. Make no mistake, Georgia voters are prochoice and won’t stand for Gov. Kemp’s attempt to deny us our freedom.

We must not forget that America is a prochoice nation. 72% of Americans support the right to choose.

While the extreme, anti-choice conservative minority elected President Trump and took over the Supreme Court, our prochoice nation can still turn fight back if we vote prochoice up and down the ballot, like so many of Georgia’s voters did last November. The passage of Georgia’s 'heartbeat bill' is an emboldened signal to the vocal anti-choice minority that they can successfully pass damaging laws that chip away at Roe. This passage must serve as an alarm bell to our nation’s prochoice majority that it’s time to stand up, fight back, and vote prochoice.”

#VOTEPROCHOICE ENDORSES 8 PROCHOICE CHAMPIONS IN VIRGINIA

#VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck: “We cannot afford anti-choice Democrats leading in Virginia—it’s time for prochoice champions”

VIRGINIA — National prochoice organizing project #VOTEPROCHOICE endorsed six prochoice champions in Virginia’s Democratic primary, along with two prochoice champions in the Virginia general who do not face primary challenges. #VOTEPROCHOICE endorses prochoice champions up and down the ballot across the country. #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder & CEO Heidi L. Sieck praised the prochoice candidates for making reproductive freedom a top priority in their campaigns and for championing reproductive healthcare for all.

#VOTEPROCHOICE is proud to endorse:

Susan Hippen - Virginia State Senate, District 07

Rebecca Leser - Virginia House of Delegates, District 96

Danica Roem - Virginia House of Delegates, District 13

Karl Frisch - Fairfax County School Board, Providence District

Larysa Kautz - Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Lee District

Alicia Plerhoples - Chairman, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors

LaTonsha "LT" Pridgen - Coles Board Supervisor, Prince William County

Shyamali Hauth - Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Hunter Mill District

“Unapologetic prochoice champions in Virginia have faced death threats, hateful remarks, and the scorn of anti-choice President Donald Trump. On primary day, Virginia’s voters must stand with their prochoice champions and vote prochoice up and down the ballot. Anyone who cares about reproductive freedom needs to have a laser-sharp focus on building up prochoice majorities in critical states like Virginia. That’s why #VOTEPROCHOICE is proud to support prochoice candidates in the Virginia state primary today,” said #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi L. Sieck. “It’s time for Virginia’s prochoice majority to take to the streets, vote en mass to take back the state legislature, and protect our constitutional right to our own bodies. Prochoice Virginians must flood the primary like their lives depend on it. Because as Kathy Tran learned this past January--they do.”

“Feminism means fighting for equality for all people—every gender, sexuality, class and race. Through #VOTEPROCHOICE, we support prochoice candidates up and down the ballot to make sure every person in this country has equal access to affordable, comprehensive reproductive healthcare services—and full control over their own bodies,” said #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder and CEO Heidi Sieck. “I’m honored to receive this award, and delighted to be on this journey together to build a truly feminist society in our country.
